Panel Description
Cable operators today offer broadband services across passive optical networks (PON), 5G, and DOCSIS networks. Traditionally, these services run on separate networks with specialized hardware and embedded software to deliver broadband connectivity services. As software-defined networks get deployed across the globe, cable networks included, service providers can gain the benefits of running these three different workloads on a common platform delivered by common-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers and software. This CableLabs demo and panel discussion will focus on the network-as-a-platform that will seamlessly deliver PON, DOCSIS, and 5G services. Convergence promises to offer improved user experience for cable subscribers and better total-cost-of-ownership economics for cable operators, while allowing for easy future upgrades.
